Anne-Robert-Jacques Turgot (1727-1781) was an important French politician and economist of the 18th century. He was Secretary of State for the Navy, then Controller General of Finances for King Louis XVI. This text is a plea for religious tolerance, particularly towards Protestants, whose freedoms were reviewed when the text was first published in 1754.
